Curtin Print & Design

Introduction

In December 08 the University Planning & Management Committee gave its approval to outsource the functions of Curtin Print & Design.

This was not a decision taken lightly. The management and staff of CP&D have provided an excellent service to the University over the last 20 years. Staff in the area have been a major part of the University over this period, and the relationship between CP&D and their 'customers' has been very close. As stated below, it is hoped that a large number of CP&D staff will choose to work with the new supplier, thus maintaining the continuity of service and relationships.

The printing and design functions undertaken by CP&D will be outsourced to Salmat, a large national printing house. CP&D's copying functions are planned to be taken over by the Guild at their current copying facility.

During the period to the end of December, Salmat will be reviewing the processes of CP&D and talking to users of CP&D in order to fully understand the requirements. These requirements will be progressively documented.

Salmat are keen to discuss the requirements of particular areas to ensure that this is factored into their processes. Should you have printing requirements which you believe to be outside the norm, please contact Peter Fam, Salmat Business Manager at Bentley Campus on 0447 589 170.

From the commencement of January, printing jobs undertaken by CP&D which would otherwise be printed through into February or beyond will be undertaken by Salmat. It is planned that the CP&D function will cease operating at the end of January.

Salmat are keen to employ 8-10 of the staff currently employed at CP&D.

As per all of the outsourced arrangements undertaken by the University, maximum benefits are achieved when all staff utilise the services of the preferred supplier. Whilst the printing production facilities will not be on campus, it is considered that the pricing, service model and security features offered by Salmat make them an attractive proposition for the University's printing function.

If you have any queries regarding this matter, please contact Mark Diaz or Hugh Frost.
